This overload protection device is equipped with powerful thermostatic bimetal elements that are heated either directly or indirectly depending on the rated current. If the current rises to unacceptably high values, the bimetal elements trigger a microswitch. This microswitch is connected to the self-holding circuit of the power contactor so that the load is switched off immediately without any additional switching contacts. The switch can be switched on again after a cooling time specified by the motor manufacturer. Where electronic brakes are used we recommend a 2-pole overload protection device in conjunction with temperature monitoring by means of a thermistor in the motor.
