Three-Phase monitoring is a mandatory requirement under DIN EN60204--1, Para. 7.8 "where a rotary field fault in the supply voltage could cause a hazardous condition or damage the machine."

Rotary direction lock-outs are used on machines where startup in the wrong direction would present a hazard for the drive mechanism, production materials or operating personnel. Examples of such motorized equipment are production conveyors, mixers for mortar or similar materials and transmission units. To protect such equipment from starting up in the wrong direction, this optional lock-out circuitry is available for the K900 and K3000 3Ph series of switches and top-hat rail cases and custom housings. The control board will detect the correct rotational direction of applied line voltages as well as the presence of all phase legs. When phase arrangement is correct, an output relay will activate. The voltage release signal in the control circuitry is enabled by this output relay and, in turn, enables the ON/OFF switch. If there is a fault in the rotary field, the motor cannot be turned on. A phase drop-out during operation will not be detected. If desired, the switch can also be equipped with an optional indicator, either optical or acoustic.
