Soft-Start devices are used with drive mechanisms for equipment like conveyors, pumps, door openers, ventilators, compressors and so on. The advantage of this type of control is that the motor is started gently by the adjustable ramp-up time without an abrupt jerk. Startup time can be adjusted as needed. The medium being moved, e.g. air or water, can be brought into motion in a gradually increasing manner until full motor speed, and therefore full volume movement, can be achieved.
Current limiting during the startup phase is another advantage. This reduces stress on the line fuses/circuit breaker and also reduces disturbing feedback into the supply line. The circuitry is implemented with 1, 2 or 3 pole triac circuits. This provides phase-fired control of any desired startup and, when desired, shutdown as well.
This control can be combined with an electronic brake mechanism too.
