CEE Plug Connectors and Code Colours

CEE Plug Connectors according to EN60309-2:1992

VDE0100 Section 6N requires measures to make it impossible for a plug to be inserted in a socket for a higher voltage. This requirement is met by specific positions of the plug insert in the case which are vary according to the voltage, type of current and frequency. The positions are defined by the hours of the clock based on the position of the earthing contact tube of the socket insert relative to the polarizing slot in the outlet shroud. Holding the socket with the slot point to 6 o'clock it is possible to determine the rated voltage of the socket from the position of the earthing contact tube.

Code colours

If the operating voltage is to be colour coded in addition to the markings, it is preferable to use the following colour coding scheme (according to Draft PREN60309 Part 1:1992)::

Operating voltage or frequency Code colour
20 - 25 V Farbe: violett violet
40 - 50 V Farbe: weiß white
100 - 130 V Farbe: gelb yellow
200 - 250 V Farbe: blau blue
380 - 480 V Farbe: rot red
500 - 690 V Farbe: schwarz black
over 60 - 500 Hz Farbe: grün green
no code colour Farbe: grau grey
