Monitoring of direction rotation with phase failure detection for three-phase motors
According to DIN EN60204-1 section 7.8 monitoring of direction rotation has to be in use where a wrong rotating field of the supply voltage may lead to a dangerous situation or may cause the damage of the device.
Features
- Optimal protection against startup in the wrong direction
- Protects the motor against a missing phase leg in line supply
- Effective protection for man and machine
- Economical complete package
Operational conditions which may lead to a faulty rotational field include
- Switching a machine from one power supply to another
- A portable machine with external connections for its energy supply

Functional description
Directional locking devices are used on machines in which a start in the wrong direction of rotation represents a danger to the drive, the product or the operating personnel. Such drives may e.g. Conveyor belts in production plants, mixers for mortar and the like, or gear units.
In order to safely protect such drives from starting in the wrong direction of rotation, it is possible to design the switch series K900 and K3000 3Ph, top-hat rail housings and special housings with a direction-of-rotation lock. This control board detects the correct direction of rotation and whether all phases are present after applying the mains voltage. If the phase is correct, an output relay switches. About this output relay, the voltage release of the control circuit and thus the turn-on readiness of the ON-OFF switch. If the rotating field is wrong, the motor can not be switched on.
A phase failure during engine operation can not be detected. On request, the switch can be equipped with a visual or audible indicator.
