CEE Plug connectors and code colours
CEE Plug Connectors according to EN60309-2:1992
VDE0100 Section 6N requires measures to make it impossible for a plug to be inserted in a socket for a higher voltage. This requirement is met by specific positions of the plug insert in the case which are vary according to the voltage, type of current and frequency. The positions are defined by the hours of the clock based on the position of the earthing contact tube of the socket insert relative to the polarizing slot in the outlet shroud. Holding the socket with the slot point to 6 o'clock it is possible to determine the rated voltage of the socket from the position of the earthing contact tube.
Code colours
If the operating voltage is to be colour coded in addition to the markings, it is preferable to use the following colour coding scheme (according to Draft PREN60309 Part 1:1992):
Code colours for operating voltage and frequencies
Operating voltage or frequency | Code colour | |
---|---|---|
20-25 V | violet | |
40-50 V | white | |
100-130 V | yellow | |
200-250 V | blue | |
380-480 V | red | |
500-690 V | black | |
über 60-500 Hz | green | |
no code colour | grey |
