Standard requirements
According to DIN EN60204-1 section 7.8 a rotary field control is a must where a wrong rotary field of the supply voltage may cause damage of the machine or may result in hazardous conditions.
Operating conditions which may result in a wrong rotary field are:
- A machine is switched from one power supply to another
- A mobile machine with the capability to connect it to an external power supply

Functional description
Rotary direction lock-outs are used in machines, where the start-up in the wrong rotary direction may cause hazard for the drive, the product or the operator. Such drives can be conveyor bands in production facilities, mixing machines for grout or transmission units.
The control board for rotary field changeover checks the rotary field on the mains side and switches the corresponding output relay for the particular output contactor in such a way that the output allways is provided with the correct rotary field.
