Function Description

With the standstill detection, only the braking current needs to be set on the release brake. The brake's current regulator compensates for any thermal changes in the motor resistance, ensuring that the same braking duration is consistently achieved. Production variations in the motor winding are also balanced out.

The standstill detection dynamically adjusts to various motor sizes in star or delta connection. No further tuning is required. Once standstill is detected, a braking current continues to flow through the motor for an optimized after-braking time of only 0.5 seconds.

The device monitors the requirements of the professional association according to GS-HO-01 regarding braking times and fault detection. If, due to incorrect setting of the braking current, overload, or aging, the permissible braking time of 10 seconds is exceeded three times, the brake brings the system to a standstill.

If the necessary braking duration exceeds 14 seconds, the brake shuts down immediately. In this case, the motor may continue to run. A subsequent start is prevented. Both locks are released by a power interruption.

Furthermore, the brake monitors the internal power semiconductors and the external circuitry. The current regulator prevents current run-up during overload. The sensor detects any interruption in the braking circuit and prevents any further starts.

When the control is connected to the mains, the brake performs a brief self-test, during which the braking current is activated for about 200 milliseconds. After approximately 0.5 seconds, the control is ready for a motor start.

Commissioning

The required braking current depends on the motor used and the flywheel mass. For this reason, it may be necessary to change the factory preset. The braking current must be adjusted at the potentiometer so that the motor comes to a stop within 10 seconds. Braking times under 3 seconds result in unnecessary heating of the brake and the motor and should be avoided. The braking current should be monitored during adjustment with a clamp-on ammeter or a DC current clamp (with True RMS) and must be below 20A.

Ensure that the maximum braking time is maintained with all tools and saw blades. Once the one-time setting is completed, the control is ready for operation.

In standby and when the motor is running, the green LED lights up. During the braking process, the green LED blinks. If the red LED lights up, the braking time has been exceeded or another fault has occurred. The brake now blocks a further start of the motor. The block is released when you briefly disconnect the device from the mains.

Installation Note

The motor connection cable should be kept as short as possible. Cable lengths over 10 meters can become critical for the standstill detection. To prevent interference radiation, the motor cable must not be installed alongside other high-frequency control lines.

Note

On machines with belt drive, gear reduction, and unfavorable settings, resonance may occur during braking depending on the motor, which can interfere with standstill detection. This can often be resolved by changing the setting of the braking current. If you need assistance with this, please contact us.

Generator operation is possible if it is sufficiently dimensioned.

Not suitable for transformers and inverters.
