Functional description, commissioning, installation
Function Description
The standstill detection allows the connection brake to only adjust the braking current. The brake's current controller compensates for any thermal change in the motor resistance, ensuring that the same braking duration is achieved consistently. Production fluctuations in the motor winding are also balanced out.
The standstill detection dynamically adapts to different motor sizes in star or delta configuration. No further adjustment is necessary. When standstill is detected, a braking current continues to flow through the motor for an optimized after-braking time of only 0.5 seconds.
The device monitors the specifications of the professional association according to GS-HO-01 regarding braking times and fault detection. If, due to incorrect setting of the braking current, overload, or aging, the permissible braking time of 10 seconds is exceeded three times, the brake will put the system in standby.
If the necessary braking duration exceeds 14 seconds, the brake will shut down immediately. In this case, the motor may still run afterwards. A restart is prevented. Both locks are released by a power interruption.
Additionally, the brake monitors the internal power semiconductors and the external circuitry. The current controller prevents a surge in current during overload. The sensor detects any interruption in the braking circuit and prevents an additional start.
When the control is connected to the power supply, the brake performs a short self-test, during which the braking current is switched on for approximately 200 ms. After about 0.5 seconds, the control is ready for a motor start.
Commissioning
The required braking current depends on the motor used and the moment of inertia. For this reason, it may be necessary to change the factory preset. The braking current should be adjusted on the potentiometer so that the motor stops within 10 seconds. Braking times under 3 seconds lead to unnecessary heating of the brake and the motor and should be avoided. The braking current should be monitored during adjustment with a clamp meter or a DC current clamp (with True RMS) and must be below 10A.
Ensure that the maximum braking time is maintained with all tools and saw blades. Once the one-time adjustment is completed, the control is ready for operation.
In the idle state and operation of the motor, the permission to start (COM-NO) is activated. During the braking process, the permission is locked. If the permission remains locked, the braking time has been exceeded, or another error has occurred. The brake now blocks another start of the motor. The blockage is lifted when you briefly disconnect the device from the power supply.
Installation Note
The motor connection cable should be made as short as possible. Cable lengths over 10 meters can become critical for the standstill detection. To prevent interference radiation, the motor cable should not be routed alongside other high-frequency control cables.
